These cinnamon apple dumplings feature tender Granny Smith apples wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough, baked in a buttery, cinnamon-sugar glaze made with a secret ingredient—Mountain Dew. They’re an easy, showstopping dessert perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 can (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup Mountain Dew (regular, not diet)
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and core the apples, then cut each into 8 wedges (16 total). Place wedges in a bowl of cold water with a squeeze of lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add sugar and cinnamon; whisk constantly until sugar is mostly dissolved and mixture is smooth and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Slowly pour the Mountain Dew into the saucepan and whisk until combined. The mixture will bubble; set aside.
  4. Unroll crescent dough and separate into 8 triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle; roll up, tucking in sides to encase the apple. Place seam-side down in an ungreased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  5. Tuck the remaining 8 apple wedges into the spaces between the wrapped dumplings.
  6. Pour the Mountain Dew glaze evenly over all dumplings.
  7. If using, sprinkle turbinado sugar over the top.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until crescent rolls are golden brown and glaze is bubbly and thick. Halfway through, spoon glaze over dumplings for extra moisture.
  9. Let cool in the dish on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use Granny Smith apples for tartness; do not substitute with diet Mountain Dew. Seal crescent dough tightly to prevent sogginess. Let dumplings rest after baking for better texture. Can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerated before baking.
