Best Lighter Mummy Pigs in a Blanket with Honey Mustard Dip

mummy pigs in a blanket - featured image

A lighter, crispier twist on classic pigs in a blanket, these mummy-shaped appetizers use thin pizza dough instead of crescent rolls for a less greasy, more satisfying crunch. Paired with a tangy-sweet honey mustard dip, they’re perfect for Halloween, game day, or any party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (12-14 oz) pre-cooked cocktail sausages or mini hot dogs
  • 1 tube (13.8 oz) refrigerated thin crust pizza dough
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Mini candy eyes or small dots of mustard for faces (optional)
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • Pinch of salt and black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface. Cut lengthwise into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide (12-16 strips).
  3. Wrap each cocktail sausage with a strip of dough, starting at one end and overlapping slightly. Leave a small gap at the top for the face if desired. Press end to seal.
  4. In a small bowl, beat egg with 1 tablespoon water. Brush each wrapped sausage with egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.
  5. Place mummy pigs on prepared baking sheet, spacing 1 inch apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. While baking, make dip: In a small bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Adjust to taste.
  7. Once baked and slightly cooled, add candy eyes or mustard dots for faces (optional).
  8. Serve warm with honey mustard dip.

Notes

For best results, cut dough strips no wider than 1/2 inch and avoid over-wrapping. Egg wash is essential for golden color. If dough tears, just press it back together. For make-ahead, assemble unbaked and refrigerate up to 1 day; add 1-2 minutes to baking time. Reheat leftovers in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes or air fryer at 375°F for 3 minutes.
