These Cozy Mummy Hot Dogs with Crescent Roll Wraps are a fun, easy Halloween snack that kids and adults love. Made with just three main ingredients, they come together in under 25 minutes for a spooky-season treat that’s both silly and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 standard-sized hot dogs (all-beef recommended, like Nathan’s or Hebrew National)
  • 2 cans (8-count each) crescent roll dough (like Pillsbury)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for the eyes)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Let crescent roll dough sit at room temperature for 5 minutes.
  2. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Optionally, make a few shallow diagonal cuts along each hot dog with a sharp knife.
  3. Open crescent roll cans, unroll dough, and separate into triangles along perforated lines (16 total).
  4. Cut each triangle lengthwise into 3-4 thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide at the wide end, tapering to points.
  5. Wrap a dough strip around each hot dog from one end, slightly overlapping, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Press dough gently against hot dog. Place on prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
  6. Use a toothpick or knife tip to make two small indentations in the exposed hot dog area for eyes.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 egg and 1 tablespoon water. Brush egg wash lightly over dough strips. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if desired.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed, and hot dogs are heated through.
  9. Let cool on baking sheet for 2-3 minutes. Use a toothpick or small squeeze bottle to add dots of mustard or ketchup to eye indentations. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, work with cold dough and cut strips in one clean motion. Don’t wrap too tightly—leave a little slack. Space mummies 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Let rest 2-3 minutes before adding eyes to prevent condiment from melting. Turkey hot dogs may need 1-2 minutes less baking time. For make-ahead, assemble up to 24 hours in advance, refrigerate, then add egg wash and bake, adding 2-3 minutes to baking time. Not recommended for freezing after baking; freeze uncooked mummies for up to 2 months and bake from frozen, adding 3-5 minutes.
