A thick, creamy peanut butter smoothie bowl made with frozen bananas and simple ingredients. It’s a quick, healthy breakfast that tastes like dessert and comes together in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas, frozen
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice (e.g., oat milk, dairy milk, almond milk)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup granola
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • Sliced banana (from the unfrozen half)
  • Drizzle of extra peanut butter (warmed)
  • Optional toppings: dark chocolate chips, shredded coconut, sliced almonds, fresh berries, dollop of yogurt

Instructions

  1. Prep your bananas: Peel, slice into chunks, and freeze on a parchment-lined baking sheet for at least 2 hours or overnight. Let sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before blending if very hard.
  2. Add ingredients to blender: Start with frozen banana chunks, then add peanut butter, milk, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Add honey or maple syrup if using.
  3. Blend on low, then high: Start on low to break up banana, then increase to high. Blend for 30-45 seconds until smooth.
  4. Scrape and repeat: Stop blender, scrape down sides with a rubber spatula, and blend another 20-30 seconds on high. Add more milk 1 tablespoon at a time if too thick.
  5. Check the texture: Should be thick enough to hold a spoon upright but smooth and scoopable. Adjust with more frozen banana or milk as needed.
  6. Pour into bowls: Divide smoothie between two wide, shallow bowls. Swirl with the back of a spoon for a nice surface.
  7. Add toppings: Start with granola, then sliced banana, chia seeds, and a drizzle of warm peanut butter. Add any optional toppings.
  8. Serve immediately: Enjoy right away while toppings are crunchy and base is cold and creamy.

Notes

For best texture, use ripe bananas with brown spots. If blender struggles, let frozen bananas sit out for 5 minutes or add milk 1 tablespoon at a time. Smoothie bowls are best eaten immediately; leftovers can be frozen for up to 2 weeks but will not be as creamy. For a thicker bowl, add more frozen banana or a handful of ice cubes. For a thinner bowl, add more milk.
