This copycat Christmas tree cake dip is a quick, easy, and delicious dessert dip made with just three ingredients. Perfect for holiday parties, it’s a crowd-pleaser that tastes like the nostalgic Little Debbie treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 7 ounces marshmallow fluff (one standard jar)
  • 3 Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes (about one and a half boxes)
  • Optional for garnish: Extra sprinkles, a crushed Christmas tree cake on top, or a drizzle of white chocolate

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese. Take your 8 ounces of cream cheese out of the fridge and let it sit on the counter for 20-30 minutes. If you’re in a hurry, unwrap it, place it on a microwave-safe plate, and microwave on low power for 10-15 seconds. It should be soft enough that you can press your finger into it without resistance, but not warm or melted.
  2. Chop the Christmas tree cakes. Take 3 Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes and place them on a cutting board. Using a sharp serrated knife, cut each cake into small pieces—about 1/2-inch cubes. Don’t worry about being precise. Some pieces will be bigger, some will be crumbs, and that’s exactly what you want. The bigger pieces add texture, the crumbs blend into the dip. Set aside about 2 tablespoons of the crumbs for garnish if you’re feeling fancy.
  3. Beat the cream cheese. Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl. Using your hand mixer on medium speed, beat the cream cheese for about 1 minute until it’s smooth and creamy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with your spatula halfway through. You want zero lumps at this stage.
  4. Add the marshmallow fluff. Scoop the entire 7-ounce jar of marshmallow fluff into the bowl with the cream cheese. That’s right—the whole jar. No measuring, no saving some for later. Start mixing on low speed so the fluff doesn’t fly everywhere (speaking from experience here), then increase to medium speed and beat for another 1-2 minutes until the mixture is light, fluffy, and completely combined. The color should be a uniform pale white, and the texture should look like thick frosting.
  5. Fold in the cake pieces. Add the chopped Christmas tree cake pieces to the bowl. Using your spatula, gently fold them into the cream cheese mixture. Don’t overmix here—you want visible chunks of cake throughout the dip. If you keep stirring, the cake will dissolve completely and you’ll lose that wonderful texture. Fold just until the cake pieces are evenly distributed, about 10-15 folds.
  6. Taste and adjust. Take a small taste on a graham cracker or pretzel. Does it taste like a Christmas tree cake? It should. If it needs a little more cake flavor, you can crumble in half of another cake and fold it in. I’ve done this before when my cakes were slightly stale—the extra cake boosted the flavor perfectly.
  7. Transfer to serving bowl. Scoop the dip into your serving bowl. Use the spatula to spread it into an even layer. If you saved some cake crumbs, sprinkle them over the top. You can also add a few extra sprinkles for that festive look.
  8. Serve immediately or chill. This dip is wonderful at room temperature, but it also firms up nicely in the fridge. If you’re making it ahead, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes before serving so it softens enough for dipping.

Notes

Don’t overmix the cake pieces to keep visible chunks. Room temperature cream cheese is essential for a smooth texture. If the dip is too thick, add a splash of milk; if too thin, add more cake. This dip tastes even better after a few hours in the fridge. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free vanilla snack cakes instead of Little Debbie cakes.
