These spooky spider deviled eggs are a quick and easy Halloween appetizer made with simple ingredients like eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, and olives. They’re perfect for parties and guaranteed to impress guests.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise (Hellmann’s or Duke’s recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Paprika for garnish
  • 1 can (6 oz) large black olives (whole)
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced lengthwise for legs

Instructions

  1. Hard-boil the eggs: Place 12 eggs in a single layer in a saucepan, cover with cold water (1 inch above eggs). Bring to a rolling boil over high heat, cover, turn off heat, and let sit for exactly 12 minutes. Transfer to an ice bath and cool completely (about 10 minutes).
  2. Peel the eggs: Gently tap each egg to crack the shell, roll between palms, and peel starting from the wider end. Rinse under cold water and pat dry.
  3. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise with a sharp knife. Pop out yolks into a mixing bowl. Arrange the 24 egg white halves on a serving platter.
  4. Make the filling: Add mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar (if using), salt, and pepper to the yolks. Mash with a fork until smooth and creamy. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  5. Fill the egg whites: Spoon the yolk mixture into a piping bag or zip-top bag. Snip off 1/4 inch from the corner. Pipe filling into each egg white half, mounding slightly in the center.
  6. Prepare the olives: Drain the can of whole black olives. Select 24 of the largest, firmest olives for spider bodies. Slice the remaining olives lengthwise into thin strips (about 1/8 inch wide) for legs.
  7. Assemble the spiders: Place one whole olive on top of each filled egg white half, pressing gently into the filling. Arrange 4 olive strips on each side of the whole olive to create legs, angling them slightly outward.
  8. Add finishing touches: Optionally, add tiny dots of mustard or paprika to the whole olives for eyes. Sprinkle a light dusting of paprika over the platter.
  9. Chill before serving: Refrigerate assembled spider deviled eggs for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use eggs that are at least a week old for easier peeling. Slice olives right before assembly to prevent drying. Keep filling thick so the olive bodies stay in place. Assemble up to 4 hours ahead, adding olive legs just before serving.
