This easy honey glazed ham with brown sugar pineapple crust is sweet, salty, and sticky in all the right ways. With minimal hands-on time, it’s perfect for holidays or a special weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-10 pound) bone-in fully cooked ham, spiral-sliced or whole
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar, light or dark
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 can (20 ounces) pineapple rings in juice, drained with juice reserved
  • 1 jar (10 ounces) maraschino cherries, drained
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Let the ham sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  2. Remove ham from packaging, pat dry. Trim thick skin or rind, leaving about 1/4 inch of fat. Score the surface in a diamond pattern, cuts about 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart.
  3. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine brown sugar, honey, 1/4 cup reserved pineapple juice, Dijon mustard, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon. Stir until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth, about 3-4 minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  4. Place ham flat-side down on a rack in a roasting pan. Brush about half of the glaze all over the ham, getting it into the scored cuts. Reserve remaining glaze.
  5. Secure pineapple rings to the ham using toothpicks, spacing evenly. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each ring, securing with another toothpick if needed.
  6. Tent ham loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes per pound (about 1 hour 20 minutes for an 8-pound ham).
  7. After 1 hour, remove foil and baste ham with remaining glaze. Return to oven, uncovered, and bake another 20-30 minutes, basting every 10 minutes with pan juices.
  8. Ham is ready when internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C) in the thickest part, avoiding bone. Glaze should be sticky and golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and let rest 15-20 minutes before carving. Remove toothpicks before slicing.
  10. For spiral-sliced ham, follow pre-cut lines. For whole ham, slice against the grain into thin pieces. Serve with pan juices drizzled over the top.

Notes

Score the ham deeply but not too far (about 1/4 inch deep). Don’t skip the Dijon mustard—it balances the sweetness. Baste frequently during the uncovered baking phase. Let the ham rest for 15-20 minutes before carving. Use the pan drippings as a sauce or in gravy.
