A fun and festive guacamole dip shaped like a monster face, made with ripe avocados, lime, and black olive eyes. Ready in just 5 minutes, it’s the perfect Halloween party appetizer that delights both kids and adults.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 lime, juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 cup pitted black olives (canned, drained)
  • 1 small clove garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut each avocado in half lengthwise, working around the pit. Twist halves to separate. Remove pit by tapping with knife blade and twisting, or scoop out with a spoon.
  2. Scoop avocado flesh into a medium mixing bowl. Discard skins and pits.
  3. Mash avocado with a fork to desired consistency (chunky recommended, about 80% mashed).
  4. Add lime juice and salt. Stir until well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  5. If using, stir in minced garlic and chopped cilantro.
  6. Spoon guacamole into a serving dish and spread into an even layer. Smooth the surface with the back of a spoon.
  7. Slice black olives into thin rounds. Arrange 6-8 slices on the guacamole to look like eyes. For extra effect, add a small dollop of sour cream or a tiny piece of white onion in the center of each olive slice.
  8. Optional: Add a mouth made from red bell pepper strip, teeth from tortilla chip triangles, or other creative details.
  9. Serve immediately with tortilla chips. If making ahead, press plastic wrap directly onto surface and refrigerate up to 2 hours; add olive eyes just before serving.

Notes

For best results, use ripe avocados that yield slightly to gentle pressure. To speed ripening, place in a paper bag with an apple or banana overnight. Keep guacamole chunky to prevent olive eyes from sinking. Serve immediately for freshest flavor and color.
