These quick spiced dried orange slices are a last-minute holiday hero—ready in under an hour with pantry-friendly ingredients. They make stunning garnishes for cocktails, mulled wine, or hot tea, and double as edible decorations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2–3 large oranges (navel, blood, or cara cara)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground clove
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place a wire rack on top if available.
  2. Wash and dry oranges thoroughly. Pat completely dry.
  3. Slice oranges into even rounds, about ⅛-inch thick. Discard ends. You should get 8–10 slices per orange.
  4. Blot slices gently with paper towels to absorb excess juice.
  5. In a small bowl, mix sugar, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice, and salt until combined.
  6. Dredge each orange slice in the spice sugar, coating both sides lightly. Shake off excess.
  7. Place coated slices in a single layer on the wire rack or parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving at least ½ inch between slices.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes, flipping halfway through (after about 25 minutes). Slices should be dry to the touch but still slightly pliable.
  9. Let cool completely on the baking sheet for 15–20 minutes. They will firm up as they cool.

Notes

For best results, use firm, thin-skinned oranges. Slices should be ⅛-inch thick for even drying. If slices are sticky after an hour, they may be too thick or oven may run cool—try 225°F for last 15 minutes. Spice flavor deepens after a day. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Do not refrigerate. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
