A spooky, kid-friendly Halloween punch that creates a theatrical fog effect using dry ice. This tangy-sweet purple potion is made with simple ingredients and is sure to be the star of any Halloween party.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (1.4 liters) white grape juice
  • 4 cups (950 ml) lemonade
  • 2 cups (475 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) unsweetened purple grape juice
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (150 grams) frozen blueberries
  • 1–2 pounds (454–907 grams) dry ice
  • A small, food-safe plastic container or a hollowed-out plastic pumpkin
  • Optional: Gummy worms or plastic spider rings for garnish
  • Optional: Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Simple Syrup (Optional but Recommended): In a small saucepan, combine the 1/2 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves completely, about 2-3 minutes. Let it cool completely.
  2. Mix the Punch Base: In a large pitcher, combine the white grape juice, lemonade, cold water, and purple grape juice. If you made the simple syrup, add it now. Stir everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed.
  3. Chill the Base: Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or up to overnight. The punch needs to be very cold.
  4. Prepare the Dry Ice Container: Right before serving, place the small plastic container in the center of your punch bowl. Make sure it is stable.
  5. Pour the Punch: Carefully pour the chilled punch base into the bowl, around the small container. Fill the bowl almost to the top, leaving about an inch of space.
  6. Add the Frozen Blueberries: Drop the frozen blueberries into the punch.
  7. The Grand Finale – Add the Dry Ice: Put on thick oven mitts or gloves. Using heavy-duty tongs, carefully pick up a piece of dry ice (about the size of a golf ball) and drop it into the small plastic container in the center of the bowl. Do not let the dry ice touch the punch itself. The fog will start pouring out immediately. Add another piece after about 15 minutes to keep the effect going.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Use a ladle to scoop the punch into cups. Make sure you never scoop up any dry ice pieces.

Notes

Dry ice safety is paramount: never touch dry ice with bare hands, always use tongs and thick gloves. Keep dry ice in a container so it doesn’t touch the punch. The punch base can be made up to 3 days ahead. For a longer party, have extra dry ice ready in a cooler and add a new piece every 20 minutes.
