Spooky Witch Finger Pretzel Rods: Easy Halloween Treat

These spooky witch finger pretzel rods are the kind of treat that makes people stop and stare before they start to laugh. You get the salty crunch of a classic pretzel rod, dipped in smooth green candy coating, and topped with a single almond slice that looks exactly like a witch’s long, pointy fingernail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (about 12 ounces) pretzel rods
  • 1 cup (about 6 ounces) green candy melts
  • 2430 whole almonds (raw or roasted, not salted)
  • 1 small tube red gel icing
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening
  • Optional: edible glitter or sanding sugar (black or purple)

Instructions

  1. Prep your workstation: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange pretzel rods, almonds, and red gel icing within easy reach.
  2. Melt the green candy melts: Place in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring well after each interval, until smooth (about 1.5 to 2 minutes total). If too thick, stir in 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening.
  3. Dip the pretzel rods: Hold a pretzel rod by one end and dip into melted green candy coating, rotating to coat evenly, leaving about an inch uncoated at the top. Let excess drip back into the bowl.
  4. Attach the almond ‘fingernail’: Immediately after dipping, place a whole almond on the coated end with the pointed end facing outward. Press gently to secure. If coating is setting, dip almond in coating first.
  5. Add the ‘cuticle’ detail: Using a toothpick or knife tip, dab a small amount of red gel icing at the base of the almond where it meets the green coating.
  6. Let them set: Place finished pretzel rod on parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining pretzels, spacing about an inch apart. Let set at room temperature for 15-20 minutes until firm. For quicker set, refrigerate 5-10 minutes (watch for condensation).
  7. Optional: Add sparkle: While coating is still wet, sprinkle with black or purple sanding sugar for a magical witchy vibe.

Notes

Candy melts are best for a smooth finish and firm set. Do not overheat candy melts. Work in small batches of 6-8 pretzels to keep coating from setting. For a thicker ‘finger’ look, double-dip pretzels. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 2 months.
